Android 7.0 Nougat on OnePlus 3; First Impressions

Android Nougat 7.0 is now available for Nexus devices and Google Pixel smartphones only. There is now a limited number of  smartphone manufacturers who will be bringing Google’s newest version of Android operating system to their devices this year and the next. Last week, HTC announced that Android Nougat 7.0 will hit HTC 10 at the end of this year.

If you are now using OnePlus 3 smartphone, you can download and install Android Nougat 7.0 beta now on your device. In this post, we will walk you through what we have got on OnePlus 3 running Android Nougat 7.0 beta.

  1. Notifications and quick settings

Android Nougat 7.0 beta brings in noticeable changes to the OnePlus 3. One of such change lies in Notifications. We now have a row of mini quick settings toggles on top, and you can easily change the order of toggles in the notifications center. Quick Settings is now a separate section that no longer takes up the entire screen. The brightness slider now heads south and you can customize the quick settings title layout.

  1. Recent apps and Split Screen mode

Recent apps menu now contains larger cards and the option to clear all. With Android Nougat 7.0, Google is making it much easier for users to access and delete apps in the background. One of the most noticeable additions to Android Nougat 7.0 is split screen mode, which has existed for while on Samsung smartphones. You can access Split screen by dragging an app card in the Recent apps menu to the top of the screen and select the secondary app from the bottom window.

  1. Quick apps switching

Android Nougat 7.0 beta on OnePlus 3 allows you to quickly jump between your recently launched apps by simply double-pressing the recent apps button. There are also some changes coming to Shelf on OnePlus 3 including the ability to quickly take a note.

  1. Customization and Settings

You now can perform a long-press on the home screen to access new home screen options menu. The Settings icon is now available, offering you a quick access to a short menu where you can disable Shelf or toggle some settings.

Once you are in, you will notice that the Settings menu has received a slight redesign, taking some design hints from the Google Pixel including color scheme. Besides, items have been rearranged for better navigation. Besides, there is a new sub-section called Custom located right below Wireless & Networks containing everything you are familiar with including Alert Slider, Buttons, shortcuts, gestures and more.

The Android Nougat 7.0 runs smoothly on the OnePlus 3 despite the fact that it is now available as beta. We are now a few weeks from the official release of Android Nougat, so we recommend you wait for it. However, if you are interested in the update, you can get it on your OnePlus 3
