Apple Roll Out iOS 11.4 With Messages in iCloud and AirPlay 2 Support

iOS 11.4 has officially released by Apple today, which is the 4th major update of iOS 11 version. The latest Apple’s software arrives just one month after iOS 11.3.1 release, which includes the fixes relating to third-party display issues.

With iOS 11.4 version, users can now turn on Messages in iCloud, which is a long-awaited feature in iOS 11. The update also brings the exciting new AirPlay 2 functions. The supported iOS devices can now get the update over the air by going to Settings > General > Software Update. You can also use iTunes to update your device to the latest version.

With all major updates, Apple has squashed many existing bugs and improved performance. You can expect refinements that improve usage like greater fluidity and better RAM management.

Messages in iCloud: Preserve Your Conversations

An interesting iOS 11 feature has finally arrived, which is Messages in iCloud. Although it previously appeared in early iOS 11.3 betas, Apple then deleted it entirely. With iOS 11.4 update, Apple has finally brought it back again. It’s important for some main reasons:

In the previous version, Messages conversations were tied to a specific iDevice. So, in case the device was misplaced, threads were gone for good. With the new Messages in iCloud feature, you can sync all your conversations through iCloud to keep them safe. All you need is logging into your iCloud account on the device that you want to sync messages and attachments.

Those who wipe their iOS devices for fresh installation will not lose conversations anymore. It’s great news for iOS users that are facing problems or setting up their devices as new.

As Messages in iCloud is an optional feature, you can enable it by going to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud, and turn it on.

AirPlay 2: Audiophiles

The iOS 11.4 update also comes with AirPlay 2 into the mix. Similar to Messages on iCloud, AirPlay 2 made appeared several times during iOS beta cycles, but it was removed at the last minute. However, after updating to iOS 11.4, you can now enjoy audio.

A great major AirPlay 2 feature is that it pertains to multi-room audio. Those who own an AirPlay-compatible speaker, you will see that streaming music from your iOS device to an individual speaker is simple. In the older versions, the connection is single-threaded, which means your device could only connect with one AirPlay device at a time. With AirPlay 2 on iOS 11.4, you can use your phone to control vảious speakers throughout your home simultaneously. Apple TV 4 owners can also use Siri to control playback.  iOS 11.4 version also brings stereo-pairing support for  HomePod owners.

Beyond the big feature updates detailed above, iOS 11.4 version also contains the fix for the “black-dot-of-death” bug appearing in 11.3.1. When receiving the black dot character, the Messages app will get frozen or crashed completely.
