How to change default font settings in Microsoft Office

Office apps, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and others, has a set of default settings that users can work a document immediately. It starts with a default font (Calibri), font style (regular), and size (11-point) on all the default document template, but many of you might not know that you can specify your favorite font settings if your requirements are different.

Although adjusting the font settings in Office apps is not difficult, you sometimes need a default configuration without wasting steps every time opening an Office app.

In this Windows 10 tutorial, we will show you how to change the default font settings in Office apps. Let’s take a look!

Steps to set default font settings in Word

Before proceeding, you should note that these instructions are only applied to Word. To set a default font for Excel, PowerPoint, or other Office apps, you can follow the same steps in the individual app you want to customize. To set a new default font in Word, simply follow these steps below:

  • Open Word on your computer
  • Create a new document.
  • Click on the Home tab and choose the button in the right corner in the Font
  • In the “Font” section, select a new font to set it as the new default.
  • In the “Font style” option, choose the preferred style
  • In the “Size” section, get your favorite font size.
  • Click on Set As Default button

  • Choose the All documents based on the Normal.dotm template

After you complete these steps, when you create a new document in Word through a default blank template, you can then start typing in words with the new default font settings setup.

Steps to set default font settings in Outlook

If you want to change the default font settings with the desktop Outlook version, carefully read on these steps:

  • LaunchOutlook app
  • Click on File > Options > Mail.
  • Below the “Compose messages” section, select the Stationery and Fonts
  • Click on the Font button under “New mail messages” section to highlight the default settings for the original message.

  • In the “Font” section, choose the font that you want as the new default.
  • Do the same with font style and font size in its section

  • Click on the OK
  • Under the “Replying or forwarding messages” section, clickFont button and choose the default settings for forwarding or replying messages.
  • In the “Font” section, set your preferred font as the new default.
  • Do the same for “Font style” and ‘Font Size” sections
  • When done, click the OK
  • In the “Composing and reading plain text messages” section, click the Font button to set new default settings for received messages
  • In the “Font” section, choose the new to set as the new default.
  • From the “Font style” section, choose your preferred style.
  • In the “Size” section, select your favorite default font size.
  • Click on the OK button when done

After completing these steps, depending on the new configuration, when you compose or reply a message, you can start typing with the new default font settings.
