Facebook to launch a standalone 360-degree video app

According to The Wall Street Journal, Facebook is designing a standalone app with a focus on 360-degree videos.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO,  already announced that 360 videos would be coming to the News Feed.  Now new rumors are suggesting the creation of a standalone 360 video app. The new app is rumored to work in the same way as YouTube 360 videos on your smartphone, where you tilt the phone to explore the 360 world. The rumor also suggests that the app is in an early development stage.

Facebook also is trying to enter the world of virtual reality with a collaboration with Oculus and the first commercial VR headset is set to launch in the first quarter of 2016.
