Google Maps update lets you book an Uber ride right from the app

Google Maps is undoubtedly the most used mapping service in the world. Google’s mapping service offers all smarts nearly any other mapping services out there can ranging from satellite imagery to street maps. Google has always been putting excellent updates for its app in order to improve user experience and fight against competitors in the field as well as set it apart from other other rivals in the market.

Last year, the biggest search engine on Earth added the ability to see rides and estimates from Uber and other riding services when you are looking for directions within the app. Google today announced a new update to its Maps app for Android and iOS. With the new update, the ride interface has received a revamp, while expanding the functionality it once introduced last year.

The newest version of Google Maps officially removes a simple list of available services when you are checking the ride tab within the app, instead introducing a new map of all available drivers around you along with tabs for different services. Tapping on any provider will bring up a list of ride options, estimated fares, special offers and promotions.

Noticeably, you now can order an Uber right from the Google Maps app, eliminating the need to open the Uber app. Accordingly, users will have a full access to Uber functionality including booking a ride, tracking your drivers and connecting with them even when you don’t have the official Uber app installed on your device. All you have to do is to sign into your Uber account in Google Maps app and you can easily book a ride or track your driver. Besides, you can get information about your destinations right within the app while you are on route.

However, the update only works for Uber app and there is no word on when Google will roll out the update for other ride share services. Google’s new update may stop users from using the official Uber app, and switch to Google Maps in the coming months.
