Google’s Files Go: 5 things you should know about Google’s storage managment app

Managing storage on Android phones has become much easier thanks to Google’s endless efforts to improve its mobile OS. Google has recently released a new app called Files Go, allowing users to take control of their device’s storage.

With the Files Go app, Google has taken some hints from its main rival, Apple. Last year, Apple introduced a new Files app for iPad that lets users quickly access the files stored on their device and in iCloud.

In this guide, we have created a list of five things you need to know about Google’s Files Go app. Before we begin, make sure you now have a modern version of Android installed on your device. Keep in mind that Google’s Files Go app may not hit your device, so stay tuned for further updates.

  1. Apps and files

When you first launch the app on your device, you should notice how much storage space you now have. In the section below, you now see a list of the apps that have not been in use for a long time. At the bottom of the page, the app lists all of the large files stored on your device.

To remove a used app, simply head to the Unused apps section and swipe right until you locate the app you wish to remove, or you can remove all of them at once. To do this, hit Free Up + storage and check the box next to the apps.

  1. File Viewer

Google’s Files Go app includes an exciting File Viewer section that gives users an overview of what’s on their device. This includes received files, downloads, apps, images, videos and documents. To access File Viewer, you simply need to hit the Files section at the bottom of the Storage page. Once you are in, select the category you wish to access. You can also back up your files to Google Drive or Dropbox to free up some space on your device.

  1. SD card support

One of the best things when it comes to Android devices lies in SD card support. With Google’s Files Go app, users now can manage storage on a SD card. To get this feature, make sure you now have the latest app update. Once you update the app, launch the app and you should see a spot for micro SD storage. If you now have an Android tablet, you will be happy to know that Google’s Files Go App now supports any tablet. This means that you can manage files and transfer them across Android devices.

  1. File transfer

One of the hidden features of the Files Go app lies in the ability to share files with others. In reality, this feature is not something out there, as Apple added a similar feature called AirDrop to iOS years ago. To transfer files between devices, open the Files Go app and select Files at the bottom. After that, select images or photos you wish to share with your friends and hit Send button.

  1. Settings

Google offers a lot of options to change the app settings. To open Settings, tap the three dots menu at the top right corner and select Settings from the drop-down menu. Once you are in, you are free to customize the app.
