Group Video Chat launched by Facebook in Messenger

Facebook Messenger is one of the most used messaging services in the world with 1 billion monthly active users. Facebook has always been putting out excellent updates for its mobile and desktop apps in an attempt to improve user experience. In reality, video has been Facebook’s main focus recently. Last year, Menlo Park-based Company launched video streaming feature that provides its users with the opportunity to communicate and share experiences via videos instead of boring traditional text posts.

Facebook today announced that it is rolling out group video chat for up to six people at once in the latest update of the Messenger. This means that you and your friends will appear in split-screen at the same time “no matter where you are, whether you are now down the streets or halfway across the world”. The new feature serves as the perfect way for you to share your news with your friends around the world.

According to Facebook, Group Chat Video is pretty simple to use. At first, you will need the latest version of the Facebook Messenger. Next up, all you need to do is to head to an existing group conversation or you can create new one. Once you are done, you are now supposed to tap on the video icon on the upper right of the screen and all your friends will be notified of the group video call.

In reality, Facebook Messenger Group chats support up to 50 people at the same time, however, only six people can use video-calling chat. The group calling also features “selfie masks”, which lets all your friends in the group video chat use different disguises, thereby offering more fun to your conversation.

The launch of group chat feature serves as Facebook’s strategic plan to compete with FaceTime/iMessageGoogle Duo, and Snapchat. According to Facebook, there are 245 million video calls made each month and the number will continue to grow in the upcoming months thanks to the launch of group video chat feature.
