Here is how to download and install tvOS 10.1 beta 4 on your Apple TV

Apple has today released tvOS 10.1 beta 4 for testing purposes. The new update is specifically designed for the fourth generation Apple TV, introducing Apple’s new single sign-on feature that allows users to authenticate with their cable provider to unlock all compatible paid video apps.

However, remember that you cannot back up your Apple TV data like what you always do with your iPhone or iPad.  In reality, Apple offers two options for updating tvOS: over the air and via USB C. In this tutorial, we will cover both.

How to download and install tvOS 10.1 beta 4 to your Apple TV

Note that updating over the air only updates the system software. This means that all your configurations and apps will stay on your Apple TV

Step one: First and foremost, you need to head to Apple’s developer download page at here. Once you are in, login with your developer account. Make sure that you enter correctly your developer account username and password before moving ahead

Step two: Click on the Download button and install Apple Configurator app from the Mac App Store

Step three: Next up, you are supposed to connect your Apple TV to AC Power and connect it to your Mac

Step four: Next up, all you have to do is to launch Apple Configurator. Once you are done, click on Add Profiles to your Apple TV and select the tvOS 10 beta configuration profile you downloaded earlier

Step five: Once you are done, restart your Apple TV. Once your Apple TV finishes rebooting, head to Settings and click on System

Step six: Finally, click on Software Update

Step one: Head to your Mac and visit the Apple’s developer download page and login with your developer account

Step two: Next up, you are supposed to click on the Download button to the right of tvOS restore image and select the Download button to the right of Xcode 8. Once you are done, install Xcode 8 on your Mac. After that, you have to connect your Apple TV to AC Power, and then USB – C cable

Step three: Open iTunes on your Mac and click your Apple TV

Step four: Once you are done, hold down the Option key and select Check for Updates

Step five: Select the tvOS 10.1 beta you downloaded earlier and install it on your Apple TV
