Here is how to move Cortana to the top on Windows 10

With Windows 10, Microsoft brings its virtual helper, Cortana to its desktop OS, offering a whole new way for interacting apps and programs. Cortana is able to deliver sport scores, weather, news, as well as helps users with navigation, setting reminders, and more. Cortana is normally located in the search box on the taskbar. However, Windows allows you to relocate Cortana, making it much easier for you to use search filters.

In this tutorial, we will run you through the steps to move Cortana to the top of the app. Before we begin, the below-mentioned step-by-step guide aims to edit the registry, which may put at risks, so make sure that you follow along. It is best to create a full backup of your computer before moving ahead to avoid possible damage.

Assuming that you have made a full backup of your PC, let’s proceed with the step-by-step guide

Steps to move Cortana to the top of the app

Step one: First off, you need to use the keyboard shortcut: Windows key + R to open the Run command

Step two: Once you are done, type regedit and hit the OK button to open the registry.

Step three: Next up, all you have to do is to browse the following path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search\Flighting\0\SearchBoxOnTop

Step four: Once you are in, you will see the Value option on the right side of the new Window. All you have to do now is to double-click the Value DWORD.

Step five: You will then see the Edit DWORD pane, head to the Value date section and change its value from 0 to 1

Step six: Once you are done, click Ok and close the Registry. You are now supposed to restart your computer to save the change

Once your computer finishes rebooting, every time you start a search in the taskbar, you will see the search box that appears at the top of the Cortana app. If you want to re-locate Cortana, repeat the process and change the value from 1 to 0.
