There are two methods you can use to transfer your text messages and we will cover both in this article. Here we go

How to transfer text messages from iPhone to another

  1. Steps to transfer text messages from iPhone to another using iCloud Backup

iCloud Backup serves as the best way to transfer all your SMS and iMessage texts from iPhone to another. However, this way requires you to restore device settings and app data at the same time. Here is how you do it:

Step one: The first thing you need to do is connect your old iPhone to a power source and switch on Wi-Fi

Step two: Next up, on your old iPhone, head to Settings app from home screen, then select iCloud and tap on Backup

Step three: Ensure that you have enabled iCloud Backup. Once you are done, tap Back Up Now and wait until the backup process is complete. Make sure that you keep your iPhone connected to Wi-Fi network during the process

Step four: Head to your new iPhone, go through the setup process and tap Restore from iCloud Backup and tap Next. If you have completed the setup process, go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Erase All content and Settings

Step five: Once you are done, enter your Apple ID username and password

Once it is done, all your messages now displays on your new iPhone, along with apps, photos and other data.

  1. Steps to transfer text messages from iPhone to another by backing up to Mac

If you find the backup and restore process annoying and complicated, you can use a third-party app called PhoneView. Here is how you can do it:

Step one: Make sure that you have installed PhoneView app on your iPhone. After that, launch the app and you will need to grant PhoneView access to your contacts

Step two: Once you are done, connect your iPhone to your Mac. You are now supposed to click Archive in the PhoneView alert window

Step three: Next up, click Messages and then select OK. Once you are done, it will take a while for the PhoneView app to load your iPhone data

Step four: You will see all the contacts you have had conversations with. All you have to do now is to select the person to view text messages. Once you are done, you can drag the name of that person to to the desktop and save it as a PDF file

Step five: Select All to pick up all the messages and click Copy From iPhone. After that, select a location folder and click Save

The only drawback is that you cannot copy all these messages into the Messages app. This means that you need a compatible app like GoodReader or iBook to view your messages.
