We know that many of you are impressed with Mojave version, and can’t wait to install it on your daily driver. In order to clean install the operating system, you first have to create a bootable macOS Mojave USB drive.

If you are also toying with the idea of experiencing the newest macOS, there are specific requirements you have to keep in mind first.

Steps to Create a Bootable macOS Mojave USB Drive

First of all, you need to make sure that your Mac is compatible with macOS 10.14 Mojave version. Here is the list of devices that can run the latest macOS version.

  • MacBook (2015 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or later)
  • MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Late 2012 or later)
  • iMac (Late 2012 or later)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • Mac Pro (Late 2013, mid-2010 and mid-2012 models with high Metal-capable GPU)

Apart from that, make sure you have a USB 3.0 8GB flash drive available for the installation. If you are using MacBook, a USB-C flash drive will be a better option.

Step 1: To get started, you have to download macOS Mojave version first.

Currently, it’s still in developer beta. Its public beta will be released soon, and the official version will be available this fall.

When the public beta is available, you can download it from Apple’s public beta website. To get the official version, you need to follow the traditional process by going to the Mac App Store ⟶ Updates and install new macOS.

Once you have successfully downloaded the beta version, use Command (⌘)+Q to close the installer.

Step 2: Open Finder and click on Applications. After that, you have to right-click on Install macOS 10.14 Beta option and select Show Package Contents. Once done, open Contents and click on Resources.

Step 3: Now, launch a Terminal window on your Mac. To do so, go to Applications ⟶ Utilities ⟶ Terminal. From the Terminal window, type in sudo followed by a space.

After that, you need to drag createinstallmedia into the Terminal window from the Finder.

Step 4: Now, type in –volume followed by a space.

Step 5: Open Finder ⟶ Go to menu and click on Go To Folder.

From the Go to the folder box, you need to type /Volumes and click on Go.

Step 6: Next, plug the USB drive into your computer. You can also find it in the Finder window.

Now, drag USB flash drive volume into the Terminal window and then press and hold Return button on the Keyboard.

Step 7: Now, enter ‘y’ to continue when you are prompted and press Return button on the keyboard.

Step 8:  The installation will start by formatting the contents of your USB drive and copying the MacOS Mojave files into the drive.
