Windows 10 offers a high level of security, mainly thanks to Windows Defender Antivirus coming baked into the operating system. Windows Defender Antivirus is a great security addition to Windows, as Microsoft’s desktop operating system has become a favorite target of hackers and malware attacks.
Windows Defenfer Antivirus has been doing a great job since the launch day, protecting Windows users against viruses, ransomware, and spyware. However, there are reasons to still switch to a third-party antivirus software.
If you are planning to install a third-party security software, it’s a good idea to disable Windows Defender Antivirus on your machine. There are several ways to turn off Windows Defender Antivirus on Windows 10 and we are going for the fastest way in this guide.
Before we begin, make sure your machine is now running Windows 10. Assuming you have met our requirement, let’s proceed with our step-by-step instructions.
In this guide, we are going to change the Registry settings to disable Windows Defenders Antivirus. Before we begin, note that changing the Registry may result in data corruption, so make sure you follow our steps below (we recommend you make a full backup of your computer in case something goes wrong during the process).
Step 1: First off, open the Run command on Windows 10. To do this, use the Windows key + R
Step 2: Once you see the Run command, type regedit and hit OK to open the Registry on your machine
Step 3: Browse the following path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender and then perform a right-click on the Windows Defender folder from the left column
Step 4: Hover your cursor over New and click on DWORD (32-bit) Value. After that, under the Value Name, type in DisableAntiSpyware and then hit Enter
Step 5: Change the Value data from 0 to 1 and then hit OK to proceed
Step 6: Next up, right-click on the Windows Defender folder, select New and then hit Key. After that, name the key Real-Time Protection and hit Enter
Step 7: Right-click on the Real-Time Protection, then select New and hit DWORD (32-bit) Value
Step 8: Once you are done, name the key DisableBehaviorMonitoring and proceed with clicking on Enter
Step 9: Double-click on the new key and then change the value from 0 to 1. After that, repeat the step 7 and name the key DisableOnAccessProtection and press Enter
Step 10: Double click on that key, change the value from 0 to 1 and hit OK
Step 11: Repeat the step 7, then name the key DisableScanOnRealtimeEnable and hit Enter. Once you are done, doublec-click on that key, then change the value from 0 to 1 and hit OK.
