How to Do an iCloud Unlock: Activation Lock Removal Explained

First of all, what is an iCloud unlock?

Apple offers various ways to unlock an iPhone. One type of security is the screen lock, for which you can set a passcode. You can also use one of the biometric authentication methods like Face ID and Touch ID depending on whether your iPhone has that feature. There’s also a carrier lock, which most networks tie down contract iPhone subscribers with. And then there’s the iCloud activation lock, which is done through Apple’s cloud servers, but only if the Find My Phone feature is enabled on the device. The last of these is our point of focus for today.

An iCloud unlock basically removes the iCloud ID associated with a device. Every iDevice can be associated with only a single Apple ID or iCloud ID. If the phone is lost or stolen, the user can log in to their iCloud account on a browser tab, and then wipe all data and lock the phone from being used. This is called an iCloud Lock, or Activation Lock.

Removal of this lock may be considered illegal if the device is stolen or reported lost. This isn’t a legal forum so we won’t get into that. However, there’s another situation in which you can remove an activation lock using a legitimate iCloud unlock service. Suppose you bought an iPhone off eBay or at a private telecom carrier auction, and it was iCloud-locked. What do you do? You can’t just throw the phone away, right?

Enter the authentic and well-reputed iCloud unlock service providers, who will unlock your device for a fee. But don’t get caught in the nets of unscrupulous online entities that are only out to take your money and run. Such services are a dime a dozen, and they’ll only leave you poorer by several dollars.

In the United Kingdom, you can use services like

First, let’s talk about how NOT to unlock iCloud. What you don’t want to do is give your phone to some shady repair shop that will put in a “clean” IMEI number so you can use it normally. That’s an extremely foolhardy thing to do because your IMEI is the only unique identifier for your device. You won’t be eligible to claim against warranties, and it could end up bricking your phone.

The right way to do an iCloud unlock when all you have is the iCloud account, no password, is to use a legit iCloud bypass service like AppleiPhoneUnlock. All you need to do is provide your device’s IMEI number, which you can find in small lettering on the SIM tray or by dialing *#06# on your dial pad.

Once you order your iCloud unlock, all you do is sit back and wait for it to be unlocked. There’s no need to send in your device or anything. Everything is done on Apple’s servers so it’s actually a direct unlock from an authorized vendor.

It’s a much better experience than having to take your phone into a dodgy alleyway shop and get its innards messed about with. The service takes up to 72 hours depending on how many requests are in the queue when you order your activation lock removal, but that’s an outer limit. Typically, it gets done in about 24 hours or less.

If you want a hassle-free experience when you delete an iCloud account, then is where you need to be. The service also offers to unlock network-locked devices so you can use another SIM when you travel overseas, for example. For convenience, the site also offers a network check, in case you don’t know which carrier the iPhone is locked to. For international devices, use
