HTC to launch mid-range Desire 728

HTC to launch mid-range Desire 728

HTC is planning to launch a new mid-range device, the Desire 728.  HTC’s flagship models carry the ‘One’ badge and are competing with all high-end models from Apple, Samsung and LG. The Desire name is applied to mid-range devices of the company and the new addition to the family is expected to be the 728.  HTC is currently struggling with its high-end One M9 and if this continues the future of the company does not seem too bright.

The upcoming HTC Desire 728 is expected to feature a polycarbonate shell and a large phablet-sized screen ( 5.5-inch to be exact) with a 720p resolution. I know a 720p display is impressive but don’t forget that is a mid-range and not a high-end device. You still get HTC’s BoomSound, that offers great audio quality for watching media or playing games and under the skin you will get a MediaTek’s octa-core, 64-bit MT6753 processor, with a 1.3 GHz clock speed. The octa-core proccesor is backed up by the ARM Mali-T720 graphics, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The storage will be expandable with a MicroSD card.  On the back of the device you will find the 13MP camera and on the front a 5MP unit. The Desire 728 is rumored to support 5V I.5A fast charging and will carry a 2,800 mAh battery. The smartphone will run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, with HTC’s custom UI the Sense.

The Desire 728 is expected be available in two flavours, white and ash and include world mode high speed Category 4 LTE.

The device will be a serious competitor to the Motorola Moto G and Samsung Galaxy A5 and A7 devices. Given the phablet size, BoomSound speakers and the octa-core processor, the Desire 728 will be one of the best smartphones of its class. The Desire 728 will be available for $269 (about £178).
