Millions affected by Carphone Warehouse cyber attack

Up to 2.4 million Carphone Warehouse customers’ data together with 90,000 encrypted credit card details may have been stolen in a cyber-attack.

The company stated that the “vast majority” of Carphone Warehouse customers are unaffected and that  the breach affects some of the company’s separately managed divisions such as OneStopPhoneShop.com, e2save.com and Mobiles.co.uk websites.

Sebastian James, chief executive of Dixons Carphone, said: “We are, of course, informing anyone that may have been affected, and have put in place additional security measures”

He also added that they ” take the security of customer data extremely seriously” and that they ”are very sorry that people have been affected by this attack”.

Carphone Warehouse said that they are informing all affected customers and advising them on how to reduce the risk of further consequences arising from the data leak.
