Mobile World Congress 2017 and what we had on Day One

Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest conference dedicated to mobile technology, is the perfect place where big smartphone brands will be showcasing their newest products and gadgets. Last year, we got big announcements from Samsung and LG with their finest smartphones, Galaxy S7 and LG G5. This year, we are expecting to see more from them and others.

Mobile World Congress 2017 is finally opened in Barcelona. With Apple following its long time tradition to skip the event and Samsung deciding to push back its Galaxy S8 launch date, the time for smaller smartphone brands has come at this year’s event. Here is what we had on Day One of this year’s Mobile World Congress

  1. LG G6

The South Korean smartphone maker, LG took the center stage on the first day of the event by announcing its highly-anticipated smartphone, the G6. Last year, LG 5 was considered as the most innovate smartphone we’d ever in recent years, and nothing will change this year. LG6 sports a 5.7 inch LCD display with a resolution of 2880×1440 encased by Gorilla Glass 3. LG G6 has taken some design hints from the G5 with the power button and fingerprint scanner sitting on the back of the device. Besides, the new handset has IP68 for water resistance.

Under the hood, LG G6 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 along with 4G of RAM. Other specs include a 3.300 mAh battery, 13MP rear shooter and 5MP front-facing camera. However, LG has not announced the pricing and the release date of the device.

  1. Huawei smartwatches

On day one of the event, the Chinese smartphone maker, Huawei announced its new smartwatches, the Huawei Watch 2 and Watch 2 Classic. The Classic is metal, while its sibling, the Watch 2 is a plastic chassis. Both devices sport smaller 1.2 circular displays than last year’s models with 1.4 inch displays. Huawei smartwatches include basic features including GPS, heart rate sensor, and NFC support for Android Pay.

Both wearable devices feature microphones and speakers. Noticeably, both smartwatches offer longer battery life thanks to their 420mAh batteries.

  1. Huawei P10 and P10 Plus

Huawei also unveiled its two new smartphones at the event called P10 and P10 Plus. Huawei P10 comes with a 5.1 inch FHD display, while the P10 Plus sports a larger 5.5-inch 2K display. Both devices feature 20MP rear shooter and 12MP front-facing camera. Huawei P10 and P10 Plus feature nearly identical specs including a Kirin 960 octa-core GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
