My Top Recommended Email Marketing Software

My Top Recommended Email Marketing Software

Simply put, your mailing list is the single most important part of your business. Even bigger than ALL of your social media profiles COMBINED. Seriously! Social media platforms are businesses with ever-changing policies. Every platform can change the rules and control who, what, when, where, and how you speak to your followers at any moment. Facebook has publicly stated that they will be changing their analytics to have business pages appear less frequently on newsfeeds, and there are more changes coming in the future.

Facebook likes cannot be converted into twitter followers, and neither can be emailed. By comparison, when you send out an email you get right to the inbox of your audience. Every inbox. Exactly when you want to be there.

Those who are just starting out may find that they have a limited budget when it comes to choosing their first email marketing service. To help out all of you newbies, here is my list of top-recommended email marketing systems.

Good – Mailchimp.

If you’re just starting your biz, Mailchimp is perfect. It’s free under 2,000 subscribers, boasts a powerful template designer, and is very user-friendly. The analytics are also some of the best around. You will have to upgrade to make use of their snazzy automation feature, but the cost is minimal (I believe it starts at $10/mth) compared to others out there. Mailchimp DOES require a double opt-in (users must click an email to confirm their subscription before being added), but you can easily use Wufoo to create a form with a single opt-in option.

Better – GetResponse.

GetResponse has all of the same features as Mailchimp, and is also very easy to use. Their predesigned email and opt-in box templates are phenomenal and easy to customize. GetResponse also features the ability to create landing pages (another biz essential), which will save you a TON of money in the long run, as some landing page programs like Optimize Press and LeadPages cost around $45-$65/mth.

NOTE: GetResponse’s Landing Page Creator falls short when it comes to its mobile responsiveness. Unfortunately, making sure the different parts of your layout appear correctly on a mobile device is an arduous process of clicking tiny arrows, publishing your page, and then viewing the live site – something I was not privy until I had spent several frustrating hours trying to figure out why my sign-up form had fused into the sidebar.  I have spoken to the support staff and they said that a fix is in the works, but until then, users beware.

Better(er)- Ontraport.

Ontraport is a close second to Infusionsoft in terms of the robustness of the program. It offers email marketing, CRM, automation capabilities, an affiliate program, a landing page generator and a shopping cart. It’s easier to use than Infusionsoft and slightly cheaper, however their customer service team I not always the most helpful – which is a biggie in my book.

Best – Infusionsoft.

Infusionsoft is the mother of all email marketing systems- at least in my opinion. If they can’t do it, it can’t be done. Infusionsoft offers CRM, email marketing, automation, affiliate programs, landing page generator, and shopping cart all in one. This program offers everything you can think of, and then some. Their support team is also top notch. All agents I have spoken to have gone above and beyond to help with any issues – and that’s really something special.

Warning:  Infusionsoft is not user-friendly, so technophobes beware! I would absolutely not recommend Infusionsoft unless you have a larger list, a variety of products and services, and a stable income. Not only is it pricey at $199/mth, it also has a huge set-up fee which is normally around $1,000-$1,400. When the times comes that you need a huge, all in one program Infusionsoft will be your best friend. Until then, go with one of the other options and you’ll be just fine.

NOTE: This is by all means not a definitive list. There are many other fantastic services out there (ActiveCampaign, Aweber, and MadMimi to name a few) – these are just my personal favorites. You should carefully research each program you intend to use, and if possible, utilize a free trial to get the feel before making the switch.
