Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 to double your device’s battery life

Qualcomm decided to give us some information on its next-gen Snapdragon 820 chip, which is expected to arrive in 2016. The company announced that its 820 chip will include the latest Kyro CPU technology which is set to double the speeds and battery life of the current-gen 810 chip.

“With Kryo CPU and Snapdragon 820, you can expect up to 2 times the performance and up to 2 times the power efficiency when compared with the Snapdragon 810 processor,”

To achieve this massive performance booth, the company used the heterogenous computing technology, and now the upcoming chip doesn’t have to rely as heavily on its main processor as in past designs. The Snapdragon 820 can ask for the help of the GPU, digital signal processor and imaging processor to complete a task faster and more efficiently.

“While some processors limit their system management to CPU cores, Symphony is designed to manage the entire system-on-chip in different configurations so that the most efficient and effective combination of processors and specialized cores are chosen to get the job done as quickly as possible, with the least amount of power,”

Qualcomm hasn’t revealed any information regarding the availability of its chip,  but we can expect to see the next-gen Snapdragon in our devices in 2016.
