Razer phone review: The best gaming phone so far

Last month, Razer, one of the biggest gaming brands, made waves by introducing its first ever smartphone, dubbed Razer phone. The new flagship phone is specifically designed for gamers who want to bring their desktop gaming experience to a smaller-screened device. The Razer phone includes what’s best in terms of hardware, offering a great power for gaming, but there is still something missing that prevents it from getting the perfect score.

Razer is now available in a small number of countries and carries a $699 price tag in the US. If you now live in the UK, you can choose to sign up for Three with a 24-month contract. According to Razer, the new phone will not arrive in India, instead targeting developing markets. If you are planning to grab Razer’s first smartphone, make sure you check out our review in the section below to find out if it’s really worth your money.

  1. Display

The Razer phone is the phone for gamers, so there is no doubt that the phone offers one of the best screens out there. The American company includes a lot of screen technologies into its device, like Gorilla Glass 3, 3D gaming support and QHD resolution. One thing that surprises tech watchers about the phone lies in its LCD display, as most of today’s premium smartphones come with AMOLED screen technology, thus offering more details and brighter screen

LCD display on the Razer phone delivers higher fresh rates and frame rates. In reality, the Razer phone is the world’s first smartphone to boast a 120Hz refresh rate, allowing for smoother scrolling and animations. The Razer phone also allows users to downgrade the display resolution to Full HD to save battery life.

  1. Design

The Razer phone is built for gamers, so there is nothing special here in terms of design. The flagship phone features a typical phone design with larger bezels and on-screen buttons. The device is a lot heavier (197g) than other top-tier phones out there. However, the phone still offers a comfortable hands-on experience despite its large bezels. The Razer phone features excellent speakers for gaming. On the right side of the phone, there is a power/lock button, while two circular buttons sit on the left. There is also a USB-C port on the bottom of the device.

With the Razer phone, the American company removes the traditional 3.5 mm headphone jack, instead including an audio adapter with Dolby Atmos support in box. The iconic Razer logo sits on the back of the phone. Internally, the phone packs the fanless cooling technology, offering a more comfortable gaming experience.

  1. Gaming

The Razer phone is the phone for gaming, so it’s a spec-heavy beast with high-end technologies. Internally, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor, coupled with 8GB of RAM.  The phone has 64 GB of internal storage and includes Adreno 540 GPU. With those internal components, the phone offers the best gaming experience on a mobile device.

The phone ships with four games installed including Titanfall Assault, Gear Club, Arena of Valor, and World of Tanks. Game Booster first debuts on a mobile device, allowing users to adjust the frame rate on their favorite games. You can also customize the CPU speed and screen resolution, allowing for smoother gaming experience.

The Razer phone is the best phone for gaming on the market, thanks to its powerful internals. However, if camera performance and design really matter to you, the Razer phone is not made for you.
