Samsung Galaxy S9: Everything we know about AR Emoji

Samsung Galaxy S9 is not a huge significant upgrade over the last year’s model, but it has a number of exciting features and changes that stand out on the market. One such feature lies in AR Emoji. Basically, AR Emoji is Samsung’s answer to Apple’s iPhone X-exclusive Animoji, allowing users to create 3D scan of their face.

Samsung’s AR Emoji works slightly different than Apple’s counterpart, as it uses your photos to create your own AR emoji. Tech experts say that Samsung tends to expand its usefulness just beyond being able to map your face. Sources say that Samsung’s AR Emoji and Apple’s Animoji may increase the popularity of AR technology among smartphone brands.

If AR Emoji sounds unfamiliar to you, don’t worry. In this guide, we are going to show you what Samsung’s AR Emoji can do. For some background, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are now available worldwide for $720 in the US. The S9 can be found for less if you choose to sign up for a carrier plan.

  1. Create your own character

AR Emoji uses the S9’s front-facing camera to map your face, just like the iPhone X. The process is pretty simple, and we will show you how in the section below,

Step one: First off, fire up the camera app on your phone and then select AR Emoji mode at the top of the display

Step two: Next up, hit Allow button from the popup and then frame your face in the cut-out

Step three: Hit the shutter button, then select Male or Female and tap Next. Once you do that, your phone will start creating your own AR Emoji. Once done, you can customize your character in different ways.

  1. Customize your AR Emoji

If you want to add a little of privacy to your AR character, then you will be pleased to hear that Samsung offers multiple options to adjust your emoji. For example, you can adjust your AR Emoji’ skin tone by using the slider underneath your character.

You can also choose between different hairstyles by tapping the hair icon at the bottom. Tap the glass icon to select your desired glasses type. If you want to change your outfit, simply hit the t-shirt icon.

  1. Stickers and share

One of the highlights of AR Emoji feature lies in Stickers. With Stickers, you can spice up your character using available filters like monkey, hat, cat and many more. The coolest part is that you can download additional stickers and remove your existing sticker packs. Once you are satisfied with your work, you can share it in any app, like Samsung Messages app, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger. However, note that GIFs may not be animated in some apps.
