Samsung Galaxy S9: What we know so far

The Samsung Galaxy S8 ranks among the best flagship phones on the market. The device marks Samsung’s strong return following the Note 7 fiasco. Rumors regarding the S9 have started to heat up since the launch of the S8, hinting at the device’s stunning design and exciting features.

The upcoming S9 will serve as Samsung’s ultimate weapon to take on Apple’s new iPhones this year, helping the company retain its leading position in the smartphone market. In this article, we are going to give you a preview of Samsung’s most highly anticipated phone.

  1. Release date

Last year, Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy S8 in March with upgraded hardware and design changes. The S8 comes with a lot of new features that set it apart from its predecessors like iris and face recognition, virtual assistant, and stunning curved display. However, there is something missing that prevents it from beating out the iPhone X.

The upcoming Galaxy S9 is expected to make its debut at an event in late February. In reality, Samsung has started sending out invites to the press worldwide for its Unpacked event. We are expecting to see the S9 go on shelves in March, which is earlier than Samsung’s usual launch schedule.

  1. Galaxy S9 screen

With the Galaxy S8, Samsung put one of the world’s best screens on its phone. The Galaxy S8 offers stunning curved display, thus serving as a great tool for entertainment and daily tasks. Rumors say that the Galaxy S9 will come with a 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED screen and retain the S8’s 18.5:9 aspect ratio.

Some recent reports claim that the S9 might include a new fingerprint scanner that sits below its display. In reality, the Note 8 was previously rumored to come with an in-screen scanner, but it was nowhere to be found at launch. However, tech experts say that Samsung still needs more time to work on an in-screen scanner and will include it in the Note 9.

  1. Design

The Galaxy S8 is one of the most beautiful flagship phones we have ever seen in recent years. Source say that this year’s Galaxy S9 might sport the same design as its previous model, but the S9 will have smaller bezels. According to tech experts, Samsung will move the S9’s fingerprint scanner below the rear shooter. Last year, the South Korean company flopped its fingerprint scanner right next to the camera lens on the back of the S8 and S8 Plus, making it difficult to get an accurate reading.

  1. Battery

Back in 2016, Samsung struggled to deal with the company’s unprecedented recall of the Note 7 due to battery issues. With the Galaxy S9, Samsung needs more to time to make sure everything runs smoothly on the device. According to sources, the upcoming Galaxy S9 will come with a 3,000mAh capacity, the same as the S8. However, tech experts say that the S9 will include new chip that allows for bigger battery life.

  1. Specs

Last year, Samsung included the best specs in its Galaxy S8, thus offering smooth and fast performance. This year, the Galaxy S9 might come with more power than we are expecting. Rumors say that the upcoming device will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 845 at launch, making it the most powerful phone on the market.

Sources say that the Snapdragon 845 promises to offer 30 percent better performance than its predecessor. The new chipset also includes support for 4K Ultra HD recording. Besudes, the international version of S9 will likely to get Samsung’s own Exynos 9810 chip, with faster download speeds and better power efficiency.
