Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch revealed ahead of IFA debut

Yesterday, Samsung has revealed two new flagship smartphones – the S6 Edge+ and Note 5 – at the Unpacked event in New York. Samsung finished its event with a quick glimpse of its next smartwatch, the Gear S2.

We were aware of an upcoming Samsung circular smartwatch  after Samsung announced a new Software Development Kit back in April 2015 and confirmed that the new device would be circular by publishing an image. Together with the announcement Samsung published  details for developers, showing a range of round watch faces and app icons.

Samsung, with its new Gear S2, is trying to compete with the best of the class Moto 360 and LG Watch Urbane. Samsung revealed a range of different watch faces and a bpm reading confirms the existence of a heart rate monitor. The overall layout is very similar to the LG Watch Urbane LTE, with the circular icons displayed around the display’s curves.

The wearable will feature rotating bezel that acts an a physical control to the touchscreen and it can be used for action including scrolling, zooming etc. The device is rumored to be made out of stainless steel and will come in black/silver as well as all silver model – as we can see from the teaser photos.
