Samsung Officially Launches Tizen-Powered Galaxy Watch

Besides Galaxy Note 9, Samsung also introduced the Galaxy Watch at the Unpacked event. There were also a number of new features such as sleep monitoring, new watch faces, customizable watch bands and more

According to Samsung, there would be two variants of Galaxy Watch going on sale, a 46mm version in the silver color, and a 42mm variant, which will be available in rose gold and black color options. Customers can also customize the straps, which is available from Braloba.

The Galaxy Watch sports a circular design with rotation bezels for navigation and selection. You will see analog watch hands and chimes, which gives it the interface of a conventional wristwatch. The 46mm variant will sport a 1.3-inch Circular AMOLED display with a 360 x 360p resolution, while the smaller 42mm version flaunts a smaller 1.2-inch AMOLED display featuring the same resolution. Both of the displays are covered by a layer of Corning Gorilla DX+ to get a better protection.

The Galaxy Watch runs on a dual-core Exynos 9110 chipset, packing with 1.5GB of RAM and 4GB of inbuilt memory for the LTE variant. For the only Wi-Fi version, it just comes with 768MB of RAM and the same amount of built-in storage. The Galaxy Watch can boost the Tizen-based Wearable OS 4.0 and supports all smartphones running Android 5.0 version or newer and iOS 9.0 version or later. The Lite 42mm Galaxy Watch is powered by a 270mAh battery, while the larger 46mm variant is equipped with a 472mAh battery.

The Galaxy Watch features an IP68 certification for water & dust resistance and a MIL-STD 810G certification for ingress protection, which helps the Watch still work well when being taken up to 5 ATM pressure. The 46mm variant uses 22mm straps, which are available in Onyx Black, Deep Ocean Blue, and Basalt Grey color options.  The 42mm version comes with 20mm interchangeable straps in more diverse hues.

In terms of software, the Galaxy Watch will support for SmartThings, Samsung Health, Samsung Knox, Bixby as well as Samsung Pay. For new features, Samsung has also cooperated with Spotify to get a new feature that allows listening to music offline and without a smartphone. However, to use this feature, you need to be a Spotify Premium subscription.

There were also 21 new exercises added to the Galaxy Watch so that users can manage the fitness regime, along with an intuitive calorie tracking and personalized alert feature, which works well with Bixby Vision for better management.

The Galaxy Watch will hit the US stores from August 24 and other global markets on September 14, but the pricing details are not revealed.
