These are noise-blocking ear canal phones with a price tag of £70 ( for up-to-date prices click here)

Design and Features

The CX 5.00 have a very unique and distinctive design, and come in two different colors: black and white.Brushed metal finish features on the ear-phones, while the cable itself has an oval design. This is a new twist on the tangle free cable by Sennheiser.

In the box you get a little carry case which includes space for a spare set of earpiece tips. The headphones come with 4 pins varying from XS to L and with the correct fit we also got a reasonably good seal, isolating us from all but the loudest of ambient sounds.

Last but not least, the CX 5.00i come with a controller designed with the iPhone user in mind. If you are an Android user you can also use the CX 5.00i but there is a specifically designed version, the CX 5.00G, for you too. The controller also features a microphone so you can use the earphones for calls as well as music. On my test I found that the controller worked with most Android and BlackBerry  smartphones.

Fit and Comfort

The fitting and comfort of the CX 5.OOi remind me of the more affordable, CX 3.oo headphones, that we have already reviewed. The CX 5.00i are even more comfortable and do not put any pressure on your ear canals. They are very lightweight and that way, you can listen to music for long period of times without feeling uncomfortable. They featured the same design as the CX. 3.00,  and thus they too have a slight angle. This contributes to better comfort and noise cancelling. The music is directed through your ear canal and you do not need to push the tips further in your ears in order to get better noise cancelling, but at the same time feeling uncomfortable.

Sound Quality

The CX 5.00 offer perfectly flat sound, and by this, I mean that the drivers have flat response, so, you will be hearing your music the way it was recorded in the studio. The earphones have the ability to produce tight and punchy bass, it just does not artificially emphasize any bass.

Overall , they work well for most genres of music, whether your poison be rock, or pop, or classic and provide you with a well balanced sound.

The drivers produce 18 Ohms nominal impedance at 1kHz, which is slightly higher than average, although you can sometimes find earphones with impedance going up to 32 Ohms. We usually see high impedance drivers on  over-ear headphones, not on the in-ears.

The Sennheiser CX 5.00i are some of the best mid-range in-ear headphones you can currently purchase. Overall, they are incredibly lightweight and comfortable. They offer high-quality sound with a nice premium design. If the CX 5.00i are not within your budget you can have a look at our review of the less expensive Sennheiser CX 3.00.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
