Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Review by Vodafone

The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact is the smaller brother of the high-end Sony Z3. The device  has been available since September and after 2 weeks of using the phone as my daily driver i am giving you this review. In this review we will discuss the Specifications, the Screen, Battery Life and Camera. Also we will compare it with its bigger brother , the Z3.

The Z3 Compact is powered by a Qualcomm  Snapdragon 801 Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 processor. This is the exact same processor of the Z3. The Sony features  2 GB RAM, which is 1GB  more than the iPhone 6 and 1GB less than the Z3.  The specifications seem really impressive so i decided to test the phone capabilities using Geekbench 3. The Z3 Compact managed to score 949 single-core score and 2734 as a multi-core score. The iPhone, using the same app, scored 1631 single-core and 2930 multi-core score. The compact manages to keep up with its bigger brother, the Z3, despite the 1GB ram difference.
The Xperia Z3 has a 4.6 inches  LCD display with 720 x 1280 resolution and 319 ppi (pixels per inch). The bigger Z3 has nearly 100 more pixels per inch, and this the screen is of a higher quality. All in all,  the screen of the Compact is  good with very good contrast ratio and colour temperature. Last but not leat, the Z3 Compact is dust-proof and …. water resistant over 1 meter and 30 minutes!

You can also play PS4 games by using just you Xperia Z3 Compact. The only requirement is a PS4 console!

In our test the Sony was able to keep up with Wi-Fi on for roughly 15 hours (not using it). On a daily basis I was getting an average of around 8 hours with normal use and 4G switched on which roughly the same that you can get out of an iPhone 6.

The Xperia features a 20.7 MP 5248 х 3936 pixels camera with an 1/2.3’’ sensor size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama and HDR. The Z3 Compact is capable of shooting in [email protected] 4K  Ultra HD video but also [email protected] and [email protected]
The secondary or front facing  camera has a 2.2 MP sensor capable of [email protected] videos.

Cons: In general the Z3 Compact  is an very good phone but as always there are some problems. The problems here are minor , with the first one being the quality of the camera. The pictures are good but they can be better especially considering Sony as a DSLR manufacturer. However, Z3 Compact is not a high-end smartphone and thus comparing with its rivals the quality of the camera is really good.

Pros: On the other hand the Z3 is a slim and attractive device and is also available in many colors such as Black, White, Green and Orange. The battery life is above average and 2GB of RAM makes the device responsive. Last but not least the device is (IP68 certified) dust proof and water resistant over 1 meter and 30 minutes. Thats one of the best features of that phone!
