YouTube Announces YouTube Gaming

YouTube is about to launch a dedicated site and app for gaming in an attempt to take on Amazon’s streaming service Twitch.

Google has just announce that they are about to launch a new gaming service with its own stand alone app called YouTube Gaming. In their press release Youtube stated that:

” YouTube Gaming is built to be all about your favorite games and gamers, with more videos than anywhere else. From “Asteroids” to “Zelda,” more than 25,000 games will each have their own page, a single place for all the best videos and live streams about that title”

Google will be hoping the new services will lure gamers away from rival Twitch which currently dominates the market for live online broadcasting. Around 12 billion hours of live gaming are watched on the site every month.

In addition to the details released,  YouTube says it’ll be rolling out changes to its livestreaming tool to make it much simpler for users.  Streamers will no longer be required to schedule a live video ahead of time and just a single link will point to a user’s live streams so users don’t have to share new links across their social channels every time they go live.

YouTube Gaming will be available this summer, starting in the U.S. and U.K.
