YouTube has recently announced that it will be closing down its  apps on a number of old devices the upcoming May. The move will affect the second and first generation of Apple TV. Additionally, iOS devices running iOS 6 and below will also be affected.

YouTube stated: “As we upgrade the YouTube Data API to bring more features, we’ll begin shutting down the old version on April 20, 2015,” Google explains in a post on its YouTube Help page. “This will result in the current YouTube app not working on certain device models from 2012 and older.”

Blu-ray players and TVs  manufactured by  Panasonic and Sony TVs that running on  Google TV versions 3 and 4 will also be affected.

You will be able to access YouTube through your browser in almost all devices but if you have an older Apple TV or Smart TV and you rely on the YouTube app..hmm.. you should upgrade it!
